Roxio Toast - The de facto third-party standard in creating optical media on Mac OS for over a decade, it will create almost any CD or DVD format you want. However, it will not preserve the DVD menus, and if you want to burn a DVD that you can play on a standard DVD player then you would have to convert it back to MPEG-2

Talking to nrowe46, what you do is select the leopard startup disk in disk utilities, and when you press burn a window should pop down (like mac windows do, eg when they ask you if you want to do this.. How to create an OS X Lion installation disc - CNET
With the drive restored, you can now boot to it by either holding the C key down at start-up with the DVD in the drive, or to select a non-DVD boot drive, then start up with the Option key held down, and select the installation drive when it shows up. To do this, you will need a storage medium (DVD, flash drive, or hard-drive partition) of at least 4GB in size, and then just follow these steps: After choosing Show Package Contents on the installer, navigate to this folder to locate the InstallESD.dmg image that contains the Lion installation (click for larger view)
Step 3: CMD+RThe second you see a grey screen, hold the CMD and R keys down for about 15 seconds, then let go and you'll be taken to OS X Utilities recovery. If you have multiple computers that need the El Capitan upgrade, then a bootable install flash drive will make the process easier and faster, since the install file is over 6 GB in size (about a gig larger than Yosemite was!) and could take some time to download on each computer individually

When iv started the assistant without this option it gets to the stage where it asks me to choose the partition size for windows and Mac, when iv chosen it says an error occurred and could not partition. I followed your instructions but when I get to Select Tasks in BCA my options are different and it only has 2 checkmarks (you video has 3)? 10.3: Create bootable ISO Image CDs using Disk Utility - Mac OS X Hints
Never tried it with OSX install discs, but unless they specifically designed Disk Utility not to do it with Apple install discs or maybe some general type of copy protected disks, it should work. Also, if you have a .cdr file or something Disk Utilty does not want to burn, then dragging to the bottom section will allow disk utility to recognize it, then burn
Create an ISO image on Mac OS X using built-in Disk Utility App - Club Myce
Note 2: Another way to do this is to use the program ISOlator Note 3: For those of you who may be command-line junkies, there's an alternative method (and another). Create a disk image with enough space to hold all the data you want to copy (if you're copying your Home folder (recommended), click on the home folder, and choose 'Get Info' from the File menu in the Finder to see how much space you'll need). Using Disk Utility NOTE: If you are having problems with this method of backing up using Disk Utility, there is an alternative that seems to be more consistent: Instead of opening Disk Utility from your Applications folder, you can boot your computer using the OSX Installation CD or DVD 1, then (after your computer is started up), click on the 'Installer' menu and select 'Disk Utility...' from there, then go through steps 3-7, restart, and do the rest of the steps outlined here
Since Mac OS X Leopard (and obviously Snow Leopard) you can grow or shrink HFS+ (Mac OS X) Partitions on the fly, with the resizing done live regardless of whether the drive is internal or an external drive

I Suggest you do some research and see how changes in society in the way things are done for long periods have always been hard for people to accept when a better way is presented, change is hard for those that are use to the same thing over and over
How to burn ISO disc images - Mac OS X Hints
After all, the whole reason I found this thread is because I too assumed it would be more complicated (I switched from Mac to PC a few years back due to work requirements, and am only now switching back. Not the OS's on them but the fact that if you don't burn the DVD correctly all you get is the same disk image that you had on your hard drive but now it's burned into a DVD or CD and totally useless other than for pulling the .jpegs for wallpaper
osx - Unable to Repair Disk using Mac OS X Disk Utility - Super User
Is there anything else I can do to try to repair the filesystem (besides erase and reinstall)? Update: FWIW, here's what happened after I asked this question: Restarted in single-user mode (Command-S on boot). If you have AppleCare you can download a program called TechTool Deluxe, which I hear does create boot disks, and also has a bunch of other disk utilities on it and may help
Check Hard Drive Health of a Mac with Disk Utility
A few final notes: relying on a hard drive being healthy is not an alternative to having backups, you need to backup your Mac with regularity using Time Machine or some other method if you choose. Reply Pakowit says: August 9, 2014 at 5:09 pm It does help you, but you must reboot from another boot drive or the Recovery partition to repair the file system of the main drive
Does the install take more space on a flash drive? Do you know if you can possibly rent a flash drive from somewhere? Would it be possible to buy a flash drive then return after you are done using it? Thanks for your help. My new question is when using an image to transfer on a new computer(Mac of course :), There is no disk utility which is the usual way to transfer an image on to new machine from a working computer
