The Ontario Multi-Species Turtles at Risk Recovery Team has strongly urged the Ontario government to remove the snapping turtle from the list of game species in Ontario but so far has been ignored. As a result, the loss of even a few adult turtles from a population every year is enough to cause that population to decline, and this makes snapping turtle populations very vulnerable to threats such as road mortality, hunting and poaching

It is a good idea to not use any filters the first week or two as the turtles are so small and need very shallow water and are not producing much waste as they are absorbing their yolks

I urge fisherman, officials, and civilians to more closely monitor and regulate these fishing lines to reduce the by-catch and mortality of the Alligator Snapping Turtle, a truly magnificent component of our native wildlife

First of all, if the food gets skimpy in your pond, meaning most of the fish have been eaten, the snapper will most likely leave to move on to greener pastures. But I'm thinking of my three, 4 pound bird feeders, and all of the birds that come to my rural house in Maine near the Canadian border to have a bite. Does anyone know how we can coax him out of the pond, capture and release elsewhere? If a perennial has been moved three times, it is probably still not in the right place
