How in the world did Steve Jackson know that the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were going to be attacked? In fact, this card accurately depicted the World Trade Center attack in great detail
ROGER BILHAM: The coastline goes down, so do all their power intakes, and if they have a gigantic wave coming at them, it's going to short out everything electrical. We were just looking at each other going, "Is this over yet? No, it's not; it's still going." TOM JORDAN (Southern California Earthquake Center): What is different about a big earthquake is that it begins but it doesn't stop
Japan faces up to failure of its earthquake preparations : Nature News
Koji Fujima, a specialist in tsunami wave propagation at the National Defence Academy in Yokosuka, says that this and other structures along the coast gave people a false sense of security. "That basically means it could happen any day," says Yoshinori Suzuki of the Earthquake Disaster Reduction Research Division within the science ministry, which coordinates the map-making
19, 2015 Some of Japan's most prominent companies announce largest pay increases in years, including Toyota, Panasonic and Hitachi; announcements are most substantial results from efforts on part of Prime Min Shinzo Abe to pressure country's businesses to raise workers' pay, part of broader economic growth plans. 20, 2015 Japan's savings rate, long one of highest in world, is minus 1.3 percent, with its citizens spending more than they earn; by comparison, United States savings rate was 5.5 percent in January; Japan's economic recovery could be complicated as previous generations of savers retire and tap their nest eggs; about 40 percent of unmarried adults are zero savers, as are about 30 percent of families
Scientists poring over the data will be trying to figure out if there was anything unusual in the prior earthquakes that might have indicated they were foreshocks to a bigger event, rather than more ordinary tectonic rumblings. Data from high-precision GPS instruments show that parts of Japan shifted by as much as 13 feet (4 meters) as the fault plates lurched due to the earthquake
One also has to wonder if the integrity of the suppression pool (torus) is ok, because if the drywell failed, it is highly likely that the torus is damaged. posted 14 March 2011 at 1:27 AM by em1ss Has there been any statement about precisely why the diesel generators at Fukushima Daiichi failed? The IAEA said it was the tsunami, but what was the mechanism? posted 14 March 2011 at 1:34 AM by Sovietologist Hmmm, good time line link here

On March 11 at 2:46pm JST a massive 9.0-magnitude earthquake occurred near the northeastern coast of Japan, creating extremely destructive tsunami waves which hit Japan just minutes after the earthquake, and triggering evacuations and warnings across the Pacific Ocean
If a second extraordinary thing such as an earthquake happens later on, it is human nature to connect the two events even if there is no actual connection between them. There are huge amounts of research that still need to be done on marine life and what could be discovered is surely worth the risk and expense of getting to it
Judgement Day is December 21. 2012
Like the boy who cried wolf, end of the world predictions that have come and gone without incident in the past have left people wondering why this time it will be different. Religious scholars are suggesting that Jesus will return to Earth on or before December 21st to save the chosen ones in the Rapture, sparing them from the destruction that is about to occur
Japan hit by magnitude 9.0 earthquake - Framework - Photos and Video - Visual Storytelling from the Los Angeles Times
I send my prayers to the japaneese people you all are very strong minded through these time im from louisiana i lived through hurricane katrina and andrew these have nothing of what yall are having to go through god bless. Lessons from the 2011 Japan Quake : Oceanus Magazine
In addition, the Kuroshio appeared to act as both a highway and a barrier, carrying much of the radiation quickly away from shore while also largely preventing it from spreading south. Initial results have shown that radionuclides from the reactors mixed quickly into the ocean and were diluted to levels of naturally occurring radiation within a few tens of miles of the coast
(If the fuel tanks and diesel engines had simply been put on higher floors in the nuclear reactor buildings, which withstood the force of the tsunami, or the sea wall had been higher, there would have been no nuclear accident.) But the fact that 25,000 Japanese were killed by the tsunami shows that the lack of preparation went well beyond just the nuclear power plants. About 40 percent of the coast of Japan has sea walls, but unfortunately they had not been built high enough and they failed to protect the people on March 11
Magnitude 9.0 - NEAR THE EAST COAST OF HONSHU, JAPAN
Unlike the recent magnitude 9.0 earthquake, the 1933 earthquake did not occur as the result of thrust faulting on the subduction-zone plate interface, but rather within the Pacific plate just seaward of the Japan Trench. Modeling of the rupture of this earthquake indicate that the fault moved upwards of 30-40 m, and slipped over an area approximately 300 km long (along-strike) by 150 km wide (in the down-dip direction)
Radioactive water was recently discovered leaking from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, which suffered a level 7 nuclear meltdown after the tsunami. In some regions, such as Miyagi and Fukushima, only 58 percent of people headed for higher ground immediately after the earthquake, according to a Japanese government study published in August 2011
The thrusting moved Honshu about 2.4 meters eastward, and the seismic waves on the Pacific Ocean floor set off tsunami waves traveling at the speed of a jet plane (about 700 kilometers per hour). Although we may still have a lot of questions about how and when megaquakes occur, one thing is becoming clearer with each passing earthquake disaster: No single nation can be fully prepared against natural disasters, and international sharing of science and technology on geohazards is crucial for humanity
