Can you tell me if this frame comes with both options? I'll be running a straight steerer at first, and need to know if I need to be ordering the other race from the Niner site. The only difference is that Stradalli components are sold at prices comparable to the lesser expensive lines - without worrying about the poor performance of inferior equipment lines. Stradalli components put the cost conscious cyclist on the same level as the professional who gets top of the line equipment for free through their sponsors

Velocite - Carbon Fiber Composites Technology in the Bicycle Industry

This method that we call HCT (high compaction technology) results in virtually void free frame and completely smooth surface inside and outside of the frame. They are the main suppliers in what is called normal tow (under 12000 fibers) carbon fiber, or commonly known as 1k, 3k, 12k weave, and UD carbon fiber

Q: Does it matter so much when using epoxies, so long as you prepare the cured surface correctly? A: The surface must be carefully prepared for any kind of bond to perform as expected. Epoxies are sold in various formulations for different uses (bonding or laminating, etc.), but the distinction between laminating resin and top coat resin as with polyesters does not apply

Carbon Fiber Bike Frame Repair 2- Tape Wrap Alternative

Painting the Repair Here I used some primer to hide some of the "flashing" or color changes that would happen if I just painted this repair with base coat. To help prevent the carbon fiber cloth from bulging or sinking in where the hole or repair is, I like to run some strips of tape lengthwise of the tube before doing the spiral wrap

It's not as light or as strong as carbon fiber, but aluminum is much less expensive to produce and manufacture, reducing the price of a racing bike by as much as a few thousand dollars. frames - Why is carbon fiber inherently weak? Or is it? - Bicycles Stack Exchange

  http://bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/2076/why-is-carbon-fiber-inherently-weak-or-is-it
Each layer is essentially two dimensional (think x and y axis for a flat sheet), the third dimension, thickness (think z axis) is just the accumulation of layers of fibres but does not have any fibre strength per se, only strength from the resin matrix that holds all the fibres together. Some manufacturers talk of "weaving fibres together" from one tube to another in a bike frame but I don'y think this is the "knitting" through the layers of a more advanced manufacturing technique

I know River City has an indoor test ride area and tons of brands but tends to charge more than other shops so check around.posted by asterisk at 4:19 PM on June 6, 2007 So I went out and test rode a few bikes

How I built a carbon bike frame at home (and a bamboo frame too)

Of course, this method is not suitable for mass production, but if you plan to build just one or two frames for yourself, it is sufficient and you can build your own frame of a high quality. what is the weight of your frame? srichie2 years agoReplyWhile the cost of carbon frames keeps getting very low, and is now pretty much affordable, bamboo frames are still a rarity, and priced accordingly

How carbon fiber is made - material, making, used, processing, parts, components, composition, structure

Instead, producing consistent precursor fibers and closely controlling the manufacturing process used to turn them into carbon fibers controls the quality. Stabilizing 4 Before the fibers are carbonized, they need to be chemically altered to convert their linear atomic bonding to a more thermally stable ladder bonding

Repairing a Carbon Fiber Bicycle Frame

There's a company outside of Santa Cruz called Calfee Design which seems to do almost all the repair work for everybody and everybody seems to recommend their work. First, the tubes are extremely stiff to begin with, so even if there were any measurable extra stiffening of this section of the tube, it would likely be no more than a small percentage

Prior to use, pre-preg carbon fiber needs to be stored in a controlled environment that is below 0 degrees Celsius to prevent premature curing of the resin. The primary drawbacks to one-piece monocoque molded frames are that the shape and geometry of the frame cannot be changed once the mold is made and it can be difficult to apply consistent pressure to the entire structure during molding

  http://www.sheldonbrown.com/rinard/carbon_fiber.htm
I imagine there are other differences: both laminating resin and bonding resin have optimized chemical formulations to produce the best physical properties for the application. The hard points (bottom bracket, head tube, rear drop outs and seat post) stand on the jig's standoffs, so once I adjust their hieghts, their alignment is guaranteed
